According to the Hollywood Reporter, horror is the most profitable genre around. You can make a horror movie for less than US$5 million and when they work, you get an "Insidious", a "Sinister, it can go to gross US$100 million. And horror plays equally well with male and female audiences.

Horror is concept driven, not star-driven.

ABOUT THE FILM

Astral: The Netherworld is a commercial film. It's a relatively low-budget (under US$5 million), supernatural horror film with action and sprinkles of humor. The movie taps into a spiritual reality of the drug world, the psychological aspects of the characters, while engaging the audience in a fast-paced rhythm, but allowing for the development of the characters. Given the horrific epidemic we sadly face, today, and having lost friends to this vice, the writer felt compelled to write and direct a film touching this subject.
